Ikea Muren Recliner Review
Stockholm Swivel Easy ChairFirst impressions
This pretty minimal piece is something you’d most likely want to hug. It reminds me of the Jetsons actually – something somewhat retrofuturistic.
The Test
I sat on this 67cm wide chair, and it did not disappoint. The back of the Stockholm keeps your own back in a comfortable position while making rotation simple. Its 76cm height fits well with most coffee table, allowing introverts who love to stay up at night to order pizza and chill at home.
Pros
It is stunning
Comfortable
Flexible (swivel easy)
Cons
The towel-like velvet might attract fuzz
Poang armchair
First impressions
The Poang is hands down one of the most known chairs of IKEA or any living room. Easy and reminiscent to that of a traditional rocking chair, this slightly leaned shape will take care of your back while the pillow keeps your neck relaxed.
The Test
The Poang is as comfortable as it gets – with a well-positioned pillow and soft padding, the Poang will accommodate you through your favorite shows. I wouldn’t be shocked if you fell asleep during commercial breaks even.
Pros
11 colors available to pick from
Great value for money at $69
Cons
Not quite pretty to look at
The armrests aren’t that comfortable

Strandmon armchair
First impressions
The Strandon armchair is most popularly used in the living room by a sleeping granny in front of the TV or front of a fireplace. Like many wingback chairs, the Strandmon looks cozy and welcoming.
The Test
I jumped on it, and boy did it feel soft. Not “Oh-I-am-in-heaven” soft, but your back won’t hurt if you fall asleep through the whole movie. The armrests are quite okay, but the wings aren’t my favorite I suppose.
This Grandpa’s chair is excellent for the price though.
Pros
It is Comfy
Made with decent fabric quality
Cons
Available in 3 colors
Not cheap ($279)
Mellby armchair
First impressions
Honestly speaking, the Mellby looks nice, but I can’t forget the nagging feeling that the skinny armrests wouldn’t feel as nice.
The design is super modern, something that will still look good and be in “vogue” for your home 5-10 years from now even.

The Test
It’s really is super comfortable, fluffier than I imagined. I have a strange habit of curling into a foetal position, so one head rests on an arm, and my feel hangs over the armrest. This made me minimally numb after 5 minutes (totally my fault). Afterall, the armrests are made for arms!
The Tullsta armchair (reviewed below) performed way better for this purpose.
Pros
Quite comfortable
Design is long lasting
Cons
Rather pricey for some ($249)
The original fabric doesn’t appear very durable
Ekenas armchair
First Impressions
Maybe because of the grey and the bulky shape, the Ekenas Ikea muren recliner reminds of the Stonehenge. I do not know how to feel about it, and I don’t know if I should feel anything about it.
It’s fairly safe I guess – would probably put it in an office waiting room.
The Test
Better than I thought – it actually feels cozy and soft, even the armrests are ergonomic. This chair valued at $299 is not bad at all – My opinion.
Pros
Extremely comfortable
Design is nice
Feels solid
Cons
For an armchair, the price could cost less
Not slipcover-able!
Ystad leather chair
First impressions
The price range of this Muren recliner makes it the king of all chairs. Valued at $699, it looks like a leather throne fit for kings.
The Test
Because of the leather, you can just slid in it and if you want to place your lazy feet over the armchairs, you will encounter no issues hanging like that forever. The leather appears to be simple to clean but some IKEAs may have actually discontinued this sofa sadly. EBay might be your best source for getting your hands on this bad boy.

Pros
It is really comfortable
A classic (worth a very long-term investment)
Cons
Available in a single color
Somewhat Expensive
Skogaby leather chair
First impressions
It looks better on pictures than it appears in real life, the wrinkles caused by a lot of people sitting on it over time isn’t something you’d like to see daily.
If it’s faux leather (or leather), it’s just a general rule of thumb that it should remain snug and wrinkle-free as much as possible.
The Test
It’s is more rigid than the Ystad; however, the armrests are lower and keep the hands in a natural position. Not a 100% convinced overall.
Pros
Leather feels soft
Design is good
More than averagely comfortable
Cons
Pretty expensive ($399)
Poor color variety (only two dark colors)
Ekero armchair
First impressions
This particular Ikea Muren recliner is Retro-futuristic in one way, and innovative in another.
The Ekero armchair is recommended for a young-hearted owner. It can perfectly fit an office, a waiting room or a living room. Pretty, but you can’t help but notice how skinny those arms are.
The Test
It’s like expected – not so comfortable but it isn’t a chair you can sit on for long periods either. The armrests are really tall in a mysterious way, and cosy too. For its price ($129) I wouldn’t complain too much about it actually.
Pros
Modern design that catches the attention
Lightweight and simple to move around the house
Easy to fit in a small space
Cons
Might not be structurally strong
Not comfy to sit for long periods of time
Ektorp armchair
First impressions
Ektorp is a classic armchair found on American sitcoms in the 90s and we see it today in lots of Victorian homes still. The design is arguably boring or classic, but people still love it.
The Test
The armrest region disappointed me. It does feel a bit stiff and is not padded at all and I can’t say that the seat and back cushions are as comfortable as they look.
Pros
Solid and Stable
12 colors to choose from
Cons
Rather uncomfortable armrests
$399 is quite expensive
Ektorp Tullsta armchair
First impressions
Chances are that you have come across the Tullsta in your hood, probably at that coffee shop around the corner.
The Tullsta isn’t extravagant in any way but it is a very versatile or safe option to put in a living room. The best part is that it’s reasonably priced at $99.
The Test
Being a budget chair, this piece of furniture is a perfect fix for students, living space or for a person starting a new family. When you get bored of how it looks or when the covers have worn their years – you can always get a new Tullsta slipcover to spice up its look.
Pros
Price is Good
It is quite comfortable
Hackable
Cons
Keeps the back rather stiff
Only a small amount of colors available in IKEA
